Between January 2005-Dec. 2008I, for four years, I was Director and Chief Curator of the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO) and the Ella Fontanals-Cisneros Collection in Miami. During this period, we launched the Grants and Commissions Programs to create a platform for emerging, mid-career and established contemporary Latin American artists to develop new work and exhibit it to an international audience. Hundreds of artists have been shown ever since. In December 2006 we inaugurated the CIFO Space which gave us the opportunity to launch the Ella Cisneros Fontanals Collection through the eyes of guest curators and myself. In this website, beyond including my own curatorial projects, I would like to pay homage to some of the curators that created unique perspectives of modern and contemporary art through the collection. Working with Juan Ledezma, Leanne Mella, the late Michael Rush, and Christopher Phillips, was one the most enjoyable and illuminating experience of collegial collaboration, and mutual learning. As the artistic director of CIFO I was committed to creating a laboratory for contemporary art where Latin America was an important protagonist. The exhibitions in this section are a testament to this undertaking.
