Curated by Cecilia Fajardo-Hill

January 13 – April 3, 2011

Gabriel de la Mora’s Project Room exhibition encompassed his most recent works, as well as an earlier video piece. De la Mora works on various media and formats that range from drawings made from human hair to objects and drawings made with alphabet soup to burned papers that challenge the delicate line that distinguishes a drawing from a sculpture.

The “work table” that was the main element of this Project Room exhibition will contain approximately 100 small objects visually reminiscent of the tradition of Duchamp’s readymades, placed in dialogue with each other and arranged as they would be in de la Mora’s studio. The objects included: papeles quemados (burned papers); Psychic statment of the date and cause of death of the artist, written with de la Mora’s blood; erased drawings; cube of erasures; and blood paintings, to list some. This Project Room was presented in dialogue with the exhibition Mexico: Expected / Unexpected, Isabel and Agustín Coppel Collection, which was on view parallel to de la Mora’s Project Room.
