This website constitutes an -incomplete- archive of my curatorial projects (1997-), publications (1992-) and public events (2008-), as well as it includes projects that were either created collectively or by other curators while I was chief curator at CIFO (2005-2008) and MoLAA (2009-2012). Many of the projects here no longer exist in the institution’s websites or are not easily available, thus this site not only consolidates my work, but the work of the many artists and colleagues I have had the privilege to work with.

Cecilia Fajardo-Hill is a British/ Venezuelan art historian and curator in modern and contemporary art, focusing on Latin American and Latinx art, based between Southern California and New York. Fajardo-Hill holds a PhD in Art History from the University of Essex, England, and an MA in 20th Century Art History from the Courtauld Institute of Art, London, England. Fajardo-Hill was the Chief Curator and Vice-President of Curatorial Affairs at the Museum of Latin American Art, MOLAA in Long Beach, California between 2009 and 2012. She was the Director and Chief curator of the Cisneros Fontanals Arts Foundation (CIFO) and the Ella Fontanals Cisneros Collection –an international collection of contemporary art-, Miami, USA, between 2005 and 2008. She was general director of Sala Mendoza, an alternative space for contemporary art in Caracas, Venezuela, between 1997 and 2001.

Fajardo-Hill has curated and written extensively on modern and contemporary Latin American art. She was co-curator of Radical Women: Latin American Art, 1960-1985, Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, 2017; Brooklyn Museum, New York; and Pinacoteca, São Paulo, 2018. Is co-curator with Marissa Del Toro and Gilbert Vicario of Xican-a.o.x. Body, a touring exhibition organized by the American Federation of Arts: The Cheech, Riverside, June 2023- January 2024; Perez Art Museum, Miami, Summer 2024. She is editor of Remains Tomorrow: Themes in Contemporary Latin American Abstraction, on post 90s abstraction in Latin America, Hatje Cantz, 2022, and co-editor of Guatemala: A Critical Art History, 1870-2020, an initiative of Arte GT 20/21, Guatemala, 2024. Currently is working on the book Between Embodiments and Weaving in Future Perfect: Decolonial Art History in Latin American and Latinx art in the 20th and 21st Century, (provisional title) focusing on gender, ethnicity, indigeneity, African heritage, and popular culture. In 2020 was a Fellow Visiting Research Scholar in the Program in Latin American Studies (PLAS) and Visiting Lecturer Art History, Princeton; Clark Fellow in residence at the Clark Art Institute, Williamstown in 2021; and Central American Visiting Scholar of the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies (DRCLAS) at Harvard University, Spring 2022. Between 2019-2022 was Visiting Scholar at the Chicano Studies Research Center de UCLA, Los Angeles. In 2020 she received the Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant to work on “Patssi Valdez: ‘I dare you question me,’ A Radical Photographic Portraiture,” which is also a curatorial project. Fajardo-Hill is Associate Professor of Museum Studies and Art History, and Director of Northlight Gallery, ASU’s Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, Arizona State University, Phoenix, Arizona.

Cecilia Fajardo-Hill es una historiadora del arte y curadora en arte moderno y contemporáneo enfocada en arte latinoamericano y Latinx, basada entre Nueva York y el sur de California. Realizó un doctorado en historia del arte en la Universidad de Essex, Inglaterra y una maestría en historia del arte del siglo 20 en el Courtauld Institute of Art, Londres.
